Andean life Workshop tour

Three days immersion in the Andean culture; an according-to-season selection of daily light works of the Andean people. From branding, weaving, playing Andean instruments, cooking, fixing the grass-made roof, making adobe bricks, sheer the alpacas… to learn some cool words od the Aymara language!

You’ll be picked from your lodging in the coastal city of Iquique and get transported through the desert to the creek of Aroma, where hundreds of petroglyphs were carved in the rock as evidence of the Andean people and llamas trading convoys from Andes to the Ocean. From here, we start to gain altitude towards the little town of Chusmiza were we’ll spend the night. Rustic hot springs available in town (not included).

Food: Lunch, Dinner.

Lodging: Double room at cabin, shared only among travelers of this tour.

Breakfast and off we go! Up to the altiplano; a change of landscape, flora and fauna, are waiting for us there, we’ll drive across watching llamas and alpacas grazing freely on a beautiful landscape. The Challapa family of llama and alpaca shepherds are going to be our hosts and they would like to show us their culture, the Aymara culture, by inviting us to participate in the daily tasks they do depending on the season; so we could start the day by feeding baby alpacas, taking the herd to graze or maybe harvesting some quinoa.. it’s up to them. After the busy morning, we’ll have a traditional quinoa-based Andean lunch and some time to rest, later we’ll work on another small task. Everything accompanied and friendly taught by them with no other focus than learn something new about the Andean culture.

By night, music and tales are part of the dinner menu; mountains that fight each other for the love of another, doomed people that walk at night and turn into donkeys on sight and other stories to share…

Food: Breakfast, Aymara lunch, Dinner.

Lodging: Shared room among travelers of this tour in traditional adobe cabin.

We might have to feed the llamas and alpacas or maybe just release them so they can go grazing by themselves this morning, or, we might prepare wool earrings and necklaces for the unbranded ones. Later on, we’ll share lunch with our hosts and prepare our things to leave this beautiful and peaceful place.
