Pick up at your accommodation in Iquique or at Diego Aracena (Iquique’s) airport. Departing from the coastal of Iquique you’ll be transported to the desert, you’ll hit the famous Panamerican road until the small town of Huara to change the road to the interoceanic road; the one that crosses Chile, Bolivia and Brazil! Our first stop is the Atacama Giant geoglyph; a recognizable figure of Atacama Desert with a story behind.

As we keep on crossing the desert, from west to east, we gain altitude and the landscape starts to change, different landscapes, flora and geomorphology are the menu for your eyes during the following hours, soon we’ll reach the 3400m of Chusmiza town where we’ll spend the night. Rustic hot springs are available at Chusmiza (CLP2000 per person, not included)

This morning you’ll drive up from the foothills to the Altiplano. Our first stop is Tajgrapata (hard rock in the local language) the most important spot for the local rock climbing scene and place of great views to the surrounding mountains, geomorphology, and flora, we’ll take a short walk here. Driving through a high pass over 4000m we’ll get down to the plateau around 3700m, next is Aroma creek and Cariquima village, we’ll take a detour to Panavinto giant cacti forest; slopes with hundreds of giant cacti (+7m tall) Echinopsis atacamensis. Back to Cariquima and a short drive ahead to the Aymara village of Huaytane, where our local host “Doña Eulogia” is waiting for us. During the afternoon, we’ll accompany our hosts to see and share their way of life; you’ll see how they grow their food, keep and feed the animals, use the plants as medicine, how they face the rigorous weather of the highlands and talk about their traditions and celebrations. Back in the house, we’ll have dinner and we are ready to go to bed, on an original adobe house, with cacti wood ceiling beams and paja brava roof.

Breakfast and let’s go to Villablanca lake, a small one with many species of birds and gorgeous sights and bofedales (the grassland for llamas and alpacas). We’ll take a short walk here and be back by lunch time at Huaytane to share our last moments with our friendly hosts. On the way out we’ll take a short detour to Ancuaque hot spring, this little warm pond has water around 28ºC. You are welcomed to enjoy them. After, we’ll keep on driving down to the foothills, the desert, towards the ocean; to Iquique. End of services.


There are two people minimum of passengers for this excursion. There is a maximum of 4 passengers.

If you are traveling alone or more passengers are required, please contact us to design a non-binding custom proposal for you.

The Prices per person are:

Payment Options:

  • We use Paypal, which allows you to use your local credit or debit cards from home. We accept bank deposits as well.
  • Reservations for this expedition must be made with at least 5 weekdays prior departure.
  • For Chilean citizens, we receive payments via online transfers or bank deposits too.
  • We don’t receive checks and pays with credit cards can only be done online (PayPal) in advance.


Cancellation Policy

If you decide to cancel your tour reservation, for any reason, the following are our terms:

Time frame / You receive:

  • 15 days before trip departure / 70% refund of what you have paid minus a US$30 fee for operational expenses.
  • 14  to 7 days before trip departure / 40% of your payments
  • 1 day before trip departure / 15% of your payments.

Transfer Policy

If you would like to change to a different tour or departure date after signing up, we will be happy to transfer you on a space available basis up until 10 days prior to your tour. Please provide your transfer request in writing – email is sufficient. Please note, a US$30 transfer fee will be deducted from your previous payments for each transfer, and if you later choose to cancel your tour, the cancellation deadlines will apply to the date of the originally scheduled tour.

Tour Confirmation

Místico Outdoors will confirm your trip 20 days in advance and will be done via e mail.

The reasons to cancel a booked tour will be due to bad weather conditions, government prohibitions or security reasons of any kind. If this is the case you will get 70% of your deposit refunded and will be happy to offer you another options.
